In-dash radio problems
My radio works fine except overnight it loses the stations that I preset.
Some cars (mainly VWs and Vauxhalls) have wiring that is is non-standard. You need to swap the permanent and switched power connections. Please refer to your radio's installation instructions.
I can only receive BBC1, Talksport and maybe one or two other stations on DAB.
DAB stations are not transmitted separately, they are transmitted as groups, known as 'multiplexes' or 'ensembles', of about 10 stations.
For example, ALL BBC National DAB stations are transmitted conuntrywide on a single frequency (Block 12B: 225.648 MHz). Your DAB radio receives ALL BBC National stations simultaneously but decodes the signal so that you hear only station one at once.
Therefore, unless the radio is faulty, it's impossible to be able receive BBC Radio 1 without also being able to receive BBC Radio 2 and ALL the other BBC National DAB stations.
The confusion arises because most fitted DAB car radios use a different method of tuning and storing stations to that used by portable DAB radios.
For example, on the JVC KD-DB101 you TUNE to the required multiplex using button 6 (<<v / >>^), then SELECT your required station using button #10 (UP / DOWN).
So when your JVC KD-DB101 is receiving Radio 1, you can select R2, R3, R4 etc using the 'UP and 'DOWN' button #10 of the radio.
Similarly, when your JVC KD-DB101 is receiving Talksport, you can select Classic FM, Planet Rock, Absolute Radio, etc, using the 'UP and 'DOWN' button no. 10 of the radio.
And when your JVC KD-DB101 is receiving a local DAB station, you can select other local stations in that group using the 'UP and 'DOWN' button no. 10 of the radio.

I bought an amplified aerial and the signal is hopeless.
Internally powered aerials such as:
Amplified Internal Glass-Mount Aerial
AFAR amplified Internal Glass-Mount Aerial
Blaupunkt GTi-Flex DAB1
JVC HAL-1
Kinetic STIC DSA-3001
Pioneer AN-70DAB.
won't work properly, if at all, unless you switch on the 'Phantom' power supply. Please refer to your radio's instruction manual for more details.
Externally powered aerials such as:
Bloomice BM-02018
Blaupunkt A-D R T 01-M
Blaupunkt Shark Line A-RD T 01-M
Calearo DAB/FM/AM car aerial
Calearo Sharkfin DAB car aerial*
Hirschmann AUTA 16 V DAB

or similar, won't work properly, if at all, unless powered. To test, tune the radio to a very weak MW station. There should be a definite audible increase/decrease in signal when you connect/disconnect the +12v supply to the aerial. If not, either the aerial is not properly earthed or the +12v supply is not reaching the aerial. Please refer to your aerial's instruction manual for more details. (*MW test will not work with this aerial).
